EU: Poor malt prices may put maltsters in difficulty in 2006

Poor malt prices, but stable cost of barley plus the much higher cost of energy may put some maltsters in a precarious financial situation in 2006.

Industry analysts believe that the malting margins of € 40,-/45,- per tonne cannot be sustained for a long period of time. Rumours are that some brewers become concerned for their supplies in future years.
