EU: Malt exports 2024/25 slipping further downward
Current malt exports in crop-year 2024/25 trail 2022/23 volumes by 2.7%, RMI Analytics said in their early April report.
One month ago, the decline versus 2022/23 was only 1.4%, indicating the pace of shipments is slipping further downward. The current level of shipments is a 4.4% improvement over crop year 2023/24 and therefore is mildly encouraging. However, despite this improvement over 2023/24, the slowing trend is evident, where a month ago the improvement over 2023/24 was at 6.6%.
The implication of a struggling export pace is higher malt inventories are in many cases forcing maltster capacity rationalization.
