India: Roasted malt imports down 79.4% in 2023
In 2023, overseas purchases of roasted malt by Indian companies decreased by -79.4% to 352 tonnes, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth, IndexBox reported.
Over the period under review, imports faced a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 232%. Indias roasted malt imports reached the peak figure at 12 thousand tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, roasted malt imports shrank rapidly to $432 thousand (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, imports faced a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 227% against the previous year. The nations roasted malt imports reached the maximum at $8 mln in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
