USA: Alcohol consumption remains steady despite growing health concerns, survey finds
Nearly half of Americans now believe that moderate drinking, defined as one or two alcoholic beverages a day, is harmful to health, according to a recent Gallup survey. This sentiment is even stronger among younger adults, with 65% of those aged 18 to 34 considering any alcohol consumption unhealthy, compared to 37% of those aged 35 to 54, FingerLakes.com reported on August 19.
The survey also found that 45% of all adults view moderate drinking as detrimental, a six-point increase from last year. Despite this growing concern, the average Americans alcohol consumption remains steady at four drinks per week.
Beer remains the most popular alcoholic beverage, narrowly edging out wine, while whiskey and spirits are preferred by 29% of respondents.
