EU: Barley production forecast to drop to 53.501 mln tonnes in 2021/22

EU Commission’s Barley Supply and Demand Balance of June 24 puts the forecast for the EU-27 barley production in 2021/22 at 53.501 mln tonnes – down from 56.933 mln in 2020/21, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in July.

Imports are expected to increase to 1.249 mln tonnes (1 mln in 2020/21), but consumption will nevertheless decline to 44.414 mln tonnes from 44.434 mln tonnes in the previous season, the EU Commission said.

Exports including malt are forecast at 9.32 mln tonnes (down from 10.5 mln last season) and ending stocks are seen increasing to 8.356 mln tonnes from 7.34 mln tonnes in 2020/21.
