Ukraine: Beer and malt production decline in January-July this year

Ukraine’s beer production in January-July this year reached 11.1 mln hl or 1.4% less than over the fist seven months of last year, Profibeer reported on August 19.

Malt production was 185,727 tonnes, 11% less than in January-July 2019.

The nation’s beer output fell by 0.4% to 18.02 mln hl in 2019. 2018 was the last year for the brewing sector to show an increase in brewed volume (+2.5%). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, industry players and observers are not expecting any growth this year. Small craft brewers have been hit especially hard by the coronavirus crisis – they have asked the government to suspend excise duties and cancel the wholesale licencing currently in place.
