Barley news World: Spain, Canada, and Australia forecast good barley crop results this year

Barley crops throughout Europe may only be average, but some countries – for instance, Spain, Canada, and Australia - forecast good results. Also the offer of malting qualities is expected to be more than sufficient, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

In all markets barley is traded well below the prices of wheat, based on the rather heavy surplus. Premiums of malting barley are particularly low in the EU.

The Chinese vs. Australia action will change the flow of barley trade; Canada, France, Ukraine have sold good quantities of old and new crop barley to China in recent weeks. Argentina reports Chinese interest in feed, FAQ and malting barley.

Australia, on the other hand, will use its geographical position in the Asian markets, but will also become a barley source for the whole Near East region and even for the Pacific coast of South America.

Saudi Arabia has purchased a total of 1.68 mln tonnes of feed barley in two tenders for July/September arrival. SAGO continues its policy to replace much barley by corn-based compound feed.
