Canada & USA: Barley crop forecasts unchanged for both Canada and the USA

RMI Analytics’ barley crop estimate for Canada is steady at 7.8 mln tonnes, and the US remains at 3.20 mln tonnes.

Imported barley interest for Mexico indicates some challenges with the crop’24 result. Across North America, the moisture situation has improved, but some key barley areas need further moisture.

Export prices are unchanged in this cycle, leaving Canadian prices above Australia for malting barley and France/Argentina for feed barley. The domestic feed market is seeing a post-harvest rally, and feedlots are adding coverage into Q2'25. Stronger local feed barley prices are making it difficult for Canada to compete globally.
