UK: A large-scale brewery in the East Midlands produces its final pint
One of the few remaining large-scale breweries in the East Midlands has produced its last pint, according to BBC News, December 14.
Hardys and Hansons in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire was taken over by the Suffolk-based brewing giants Greene King in September in a 270m deal.
The last batch of beer was brewed this week. Managers say more than half of the 80 workers being laid off have found new jobs.
Greene King said it is considering selling off the site.
The Nottinghamshire brewing operations are moving to Bury St Edmunds.
The Suffolk firm also purchased more than 200 East Midlands pubs as part of the deal.
The company confirmed cellar and distribution services will continue at the Kimberley site at present.
