Brewing news UK: Kent brewer Shepherd Neame acquired the Tudor Rose pub for an undisclosed sum

Britain's oldest brewer Shepherd Neame has acquired the Tudor Rose, at Borden near Sittingbourne, for an undisclosed sum. The premises will be run as part of the company's managed pub estate, a company press release unveiled October 16.

The pub dates back to the 1750s, and was originally two cottages.

The Tudor Rose is a traditional pub which is adorned with hanging baskets and flowering planters throughout the spring and summer. Inside, there is a bar and a conservatory restaurant, with a popular carvery restaurant area upstairs that opens on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes. There are plans to offer the upstairs space as a function room in the New Year.

The Tudor Rose is well known for its extensive menu and good quality carvery, where customers can choose as much as they like from an impressive range of starters, main meals and desserts.

The pub also has a secluded garden. New managers Karl and Sarah Philips have run a number of pubs for Shepherd Neame in the last ten years.

Shepherd Neame's retail director Nigel Bunting said: "The Tudor Rose has an excellent reputation for homecooked food, and we hope it will go from strength to strength. We are delighted to welcome this new addition to our portfolio of traditional Kentish pubs."
