Brewing news Belgium: InBev to reinvigorate sales in traditional markets

InBev's new chief executive, Carlos Brito, stated during the company's annual meeting that InBev, the world's largest brewer by volume, would seek to turn around performance in its traditional markets, Associated Press reported on April 25.

The brewery's sales in emerging markets such as Brazil, China, and Russia are booming, but sales has been flat in western Europe and North America as consumers there bypass beer in favor of wine and sugary, fruit-flavored alcoholic drinks.

Brito declined to comment on reports that InBev is considering taking a 20 percent stake in China's Yanjing brewery, but said the company is focused on the region."We still feel there could be some opportunities there," he said, noting that InBev is focusing on China and South Korea for future acquisitions.
