UK: The British Beer and Pub Association welcomes Christmas Drink Drive campaign
Welcoming the launch of the Governments Christmas drink drive campaign, BBPA Director of Communications, Mark Hastings, said on December 1:
The Governments campaign has our full support, as there is one clear message for everyone this Christmas - if you are having a drink dont drive. It is as simple as that.
We should welcome the fact that we have one of the lowest rates of drink drive related injuries and deaths in Europe, but we must go further.
We call for random breath testing to be introduced, as we need to ensure that our tough drink drive laws are rigorously enforced, and the number of offenders falls.
Enjoy this season of celebration, but leave the car at home if you are drinking.
Thousands of pubs across the country are also participating in the industry-backed Ill be Des campaign. The publicity and promotion around the scheme is now reaching millions of pub goers across the country.
Mark Hastings adds: If you are going out with a group of friends, agree beforehand who is driving and that they are not drinking. Dont drink at all if you are the designated driver or leave the car at home.
The British Beer and Pub Association is the UKs leading organisation representing the brewing and pub sector. Its members account for 98% of the beer brewed in the UK and own nearly two thirds of Britains 59,000 pubs.
