Brewing news New Zealand: DB Brewer wins with its “Export Gold “ beer the Best of Class trophy in Lager category

One of New Zealand’s DB Breweries’ icon brands-Export Gold- has won for the second consecutive year the Best of Class trophy for the NZ Lager category, announced recently the company. Export Dry won Best of Class for the NZ Premium Lager category, and both beers were brewed at DB’s Waitemata Brewery in Auckland.

It’s no surprise to DB that both lagers won their respective categories, as they are frequent award winners, with more than 70 international and national brewing awards between them.
Mark Davidson, General Manager Marketing, says it’s fitting that in the year of DB’s 75th anniversary the brewer dominates the lager categories with two of its most well known brands.
“Winning the two lager awards is a great achievement, especially Export Gold winning the NZ Lager category two years in a row. The brand has a long history with DB and it’s gratifying to see it’s still as popular now as it was in 1957 when it was first brewed at Waitemata,” says Mr Davidson.

“Since the beginning, Export Gold has always been served across the country and, as a result, has remained a truly national Kiwi brand. Winning this award for the second year reinforces why Export Gold is New Zealand’s most popular beer.”

“Export Dry is another long-time favourite of DB’s brewers, and is enjoying a popular resurgence at the moment. We’ve recently re-packaged the beer, but it’s still the same, great tasting premium lager, but with a new look,” says Mark Davidson.

DB Breweries won several other awards at BrewNZ including Amstel Light taking Best of Class in the Non or Low-Alcohol Beer category. Other DB brands to receive awards include DB Draught and Monteith’s.

The BrewNZ New Zealand Beer Awards are the national brewing awards for the local industry. Running for four years, the awards follow the structure and standards of the US World Beer Cup.
