News from e-malt Australia: Australia's first ever "beer school"

Carlton & United Beverages' general manager of marketing and sales (NSW), Tony Gapes, said Australians consumed more than six billion glasses of beer each year but a survey, conducted a few years ago by CUB, showed only 18 per cent were pulled to perfection.

Australia's first ever "beer school" – Carlton & United Beverages' massive 19 metre, 30 tonne mobile Carlton Draught Beer Academy – rolled into Tamworth on July 12 to put some fizz back into a national icon. And Tamworth residents had an opportunity to "learn to pour the perfect beer" during its visit.

Tony Gapes said: "As a company we were so concerned that the craft of pulling a draught beer was becoming a dying art that we took immediate action and launched this travelling beer school, the Carlton Draught Beer Academy, which has its own bar, cellar and classroom."

Mr Gapes said that quality draught beer was the cornerstone of the beer and hotel and club industry. "Unlike packaged beer, draught beer requires a number of processes to be followed to ensure the beer gets from the cellar to the tap, guaranteeing the highest quality and presentation in the glass."

Tamworth residents have the opportunity to "learn to pour the perfect beer" at the Carlton Draught Beer Academy from 5pm to7pm at The Pub. Entry is free. Guests must be 18 years of age or over. Note: 20 guests per session, allow 20 minutes per session. Numbers limited so be early.
