USA, MI: The Church Brewery opens in former church in Hyde

Unique features of a new brewery in Hyde include a pipe organ, pews and a baptismal font, TV6 reported on July 4.

That�s because the old Lutheran church at 5133 I Road is now The Church Brewery.

There are 12 craft beers on tap with names that give a nod to the building�s history, including St. Paul�s Porter, Ale-eluia amber ale and a light lager called Holy Wah-Ter.

Visitors can also try the brewery�s house-made wines, play games and after this weekend, taste test a new menu item -- hard cider.

Larger parties can rent out the upstairs space or the whole brewery. And in the next few weeks, the brewery will open its fenced outdoor area with umbrella-shaded picnic tables.

Owner Sarah Nault says mingling the old with the new was personal for her.

�My grandparents were married here, my parents were married here and myself,� Nault said. �I just really wanted to keep the nostalgia of it and it�s obviously beautiful as it is. So, we just had to tweak it a little bit.�

But Nault says what she didn�t �tweak� was the outdoor sign. It�s the last message the former church put out for its congregation:

�Running low on faith? Drop in for a fill-up!�

�We felt that was a sign that a brewery was the right choice for the location,� the new brewery owner added.
