Barley news World: Global barley trade forecast up in USDA’s September report

World barley trade forecast for 2024/25 is up at 27.859 mln tonnes in USDA’s September report, versus 27.479 mln tonnes forecast in August and compared to 31.617 mln tonnes forecast for 2023/24.

Export forecast is up for Australia – at 6.7 mln tonnes vs. 6 mln in the August report and down for the EU (minus 100 thousand tonnes to 6.5 mln) and Canada (minus 300 thousand tonnes to 2 mln tonnes). Import forecast is increased for China (plus 300 thousand tonnes to 10.5 mln tonnes).

Barley production forecast is reduced to 144.305 mln tonnes from 145 mln last month, and compared to 142.485 mln tonnes forecast for 2023/24.

Global barley consumption is seen at 148.456 mln tonnes (148.519 mln tonnes in the August forecast, 141.731 mln tonnes forecast for 2023/24) and ending stocks at 17.413 mln tonnes (17.562 and 21.564 mln tonnes, respectively).
