Barley news EU: Barley harvest still interrupted by rains in many areas, forecast down by 0.1 mln tonnes

Crop’24 has been a historically wet season, and the challenges continue with further rain interrupting harvest in many areas and more rain forecast, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.

France’s barley harvest is mostly complete, and the German harvest is advancing, where in both cases lower yields are being confirmed for winter crops and to a lesser degree for spring crops. Harvest is advancing well in southern UK and East Anglia, plus southern Sweden and Denmark. All are working around rains and with lower proteins reported.

RMI Analytics’ barley crop’24 estimate is down slightly: -0.1 mln tonnes to 58.0 mln tonnes. Prices are lower again in all areas, still driven mainly by a weaker wheat market. As harvest advances in UK, yields are OK, and farmer selling is starting. In Denmark, farmers are undersold, and trade still has contracts to fill.
