Brewing news Brazil: First-half beer inflation exceeds 3%

According to the IBGE survey, Brazil’s beer inflation in the first half of 2024 exceeded 3 percent, FreshlyBottled.com reported on July 23.

In stores the increase was 3.3 percent, while in bars and restaurants it reached 3.4 percent. The city of Curitiba (southern Brazil) led the increase in households among the cities surveyed by the IBGE, with an increase of 5 percent, while Belém (North East) had the smallest variation, 0.3 percent. Away from home, Campo Grande recorded the highest inflation, reaching 6.5 percent, while Rio Branco (North West) remained stable.

Beer inflation in the first half of 2024 exceeded the country's official index (2.5 percent). However, other alcoholic beverages registered a deflation of 0.12 percent in June, but accumulated an increase of 6.5 percent in the first half of 2024 and 11.4 percent in the last twelve months.

Finally, the IBGE survey confirmed that the food and beverage group were the two product categories that presented a higher inflationary increase than the average of other products.
