Barley news EU: Barley prices slide back down reassured by start of harvest

EU barley prices have slid back down as the start of harvest has provided stability to the market, RMI Analytics reported.

Light rain in France may slow harvest slightly but higher rainfall amounts are forecast for most of northern Europe which is positive for the hardest hit areas (e.g. Denmark), the analysts said.

EU barley exports from crop 2022 (6.3 mln tonnes) are trailing behind both crop 2021 (7.1 mln) and crop 2020 (7.4 mln).

Looking ahead, Russian FOB levels are highly competitive as the Black Sea Grain Corridor remains in doubt, and Australia is expected to return to Chinese shipments, the EU27+UK faces a challenging environment for crop 2023 barley exports.
