EU: Barley crop 2022/23 forecast to reach 51.464 mln tonnes
The EU Commission Barley Supply and Demand Balance of September 30 forecasts the EU-27 barley crop 2022/23 at 51.464 mln tonnes as compared to 51.973 mln tonnes in 2021/22 and 53.957 mln tonnes in 2020/21, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their October report.
Barley import is expected to increase to 1.2 mln tonnes from 1.061 mln tonnes in 2021/22 but will still be below the 2020/21 volume of 1.249 mln tonnes, the experts believe.
Barley consumption by the 27 EU member states is seen at 42.503 mln tonnes (42.504 mln in 2021/22, 44.417 mln in 2020/21), of which feed at 33 mln tonnes (also same as during the previous season).
The EU-27 barley exports, including malt in grain equivalent, are forecast to total 9.959 mln tonnes (10.5 mln last year, 10.646 mln in 2020/21), and ending stocks are seen at 4.742 mln tonnes (4.541 and 4.526 mln tonnes, respectively).
