USA, PA: Manayunk Brewing Company to shut down brewing operations

Based on a report from Philly Voice, Manayunk Brewing Company will officially be calling it quits on the brewing side of their business. According to the report, the decision to shut down brewing operations is a direct result of Hurricane Ida which hit Philadelphia in the Fall of 2021.

Manayunk Brewing, which is no stranger to floods, sustained a large amount of damage during this most recent hurricane. The Philadelphia Business Journal reported that brewery owner Mike Rose estimated the damage to the brewing equipment alone to be around $500,000.

The financial burden to the brewing side of the business proved too much to overcome, and Manayunk Brewing has made the official decision to cease all brewing operations immediately.

In Philadelphia, Manayunk Brewing is one of the longest standing breweries to date. Opening in 1996 they are just one of a handful of Philadelphia area breweries with an almost 30 year history. At one point Manayunk Brewing was widely known for producing over 600 different beers all across the Philadelphia beer landscape, many which could be found in cans in almost every bottle shop in both the city and suburbs.

As of this writing, the change in operations has already taken place. The current taplist showcases a variety of beers, none of which are being brewed onsite, but rather produced from breweries both across the state and country. The business will move forward as a bar and restaurant offering house-made entrees, wood-fired pizza, handhelds and more.
