Brewing news USA, NJ: King’s Road Brewing Company to hold grand opening of its second location on September 17

King’s Road Brewing Company will have its grand opening of its second South Jersey location on Sept. 17 at The Feed Mill at Medford Village, a destination marketplace, the Burlington County Times reported on September 1.

King’s Road Brewing Company’s Haddonfield location is not going anywhere, but now there will be more of King’s Road Brewing to enjoy.

Bob Hochgertel, co-owner and managing director of King’s Road Brewing Company, said when the pandemic first hit more than a year ago, they didn’t know how it would impact their business. Turns out, there was no need to worry.

“The Alcohol Beverage Control Division of New Jersey was really great in allowing New Jersey breweries to start curbside and delivery during the pandemic,” Hochgertel said.

“We were closed for one day, the first Monday of the pandemic, and then never closed again,'' he recalled. "During the pandemic, we recognized demand for our beer was actually greater than our supply, so we started looking for a new production facility and Medford was it. Our facility is larger than the one in Haddonfield by about twice.

“… We’re so excited to now have a loading dock, so when we get our grain delivery or kegs going in and out, we have to have a place to do that. It’s one of the luxuries we don’t have in Haddonfield.”

Wing It Forward, the wing brand by Whole Hog Café, also will have its grand opening on Sept. 17.

Wing It Forward, which will feature more than a dozen wing flavors, will share the space with Whole Hog Café, which moved its former location on Route 70 in Medford to the space at The Feed Mill, and opened a month ago. The Cherry Hill Whole Hog location is still in its space on Route 70.

The historic building at 67 North Main St. in Medford that houses The Feed Mill is located at the site of the former Kirby Brothers feed store, which closed in 2016 after more than 140 years of business. It was rehabilitated by developer and owner Tristan Sylk.

Other Feed Mill tenants include Studio 67, which will be a second-floor arts center, Peewee’s ice cream shop and Harvest Coffee Roastery, which outgrew its location at the intersection of Main and Union streets and will have more food and drink offerings.

There will be games and live music planned for the Sept. 17 event. Peewee's ice cream will be there handing out free samples and selling other frozen treats.

The day after the grand opening celebration, on Sept. 18, King's Road will kick off its Oktoberfest celebration, which will run through Oct. 3.

King’s Road will release a Oktoberfest beer and have stein hoisting competitions, according to Hochgertel. The Medford location will feature a small tasting room

Whole Hog Café, which features award-winning BBQ, was the first to open at The Feed Mill location. It is located in between King's Road Brewing and Harvest.

Peewee's will be in a smaller, adjacent building.

“It’s been about a year we’ve been working on it, since the conceptual stage,” said Chris Maynes, co-owner and CEO of Whole Hog Café. “It’s great finally seeing it all coming together. It’s been a lot of construction.”

“We’re very proud to be part of this,” said Studio 67 co-founder Jeff Lucas previously. “... We’re not having any food and beverage upstairs because we have these wonderful people downstairs.”
