EU & UK: Malting barley crop still forecast at good average quality
The EU + UKs total barley crop is forecast at 61.1 mln tonnes this year, with key malting barley regions expected to deliver a good average quality and yield outcome, RMI Analytics said in their late August report.
This favourable result is critical, given the low carry-over situation and the challenges faced in Canada.
Frances harvest is now fully complete and despite concerns about the wet weather on the last portion of spring barley, results are largely favourable.
In the UK, harvest is advancing well in the South and East Anglia ( more than 50% complete) and Scotland (about 30%); despite earlier rain events, there are minimal quality impacts. The weather forecast for early September looks favourable for advancing harvest.
Denmark and Southern Swedens harvests have advanced to over 75% complete with average quality and slightly below average yields. Rain is forecast.
