EU: This seasons early malt exports to third countries below last years level so far
According to Taxud data, in July 28 September 2020 the EU maltsters exported 480 thousand tonnes of malt (barley equivalent) to third countries, 23% less than a year ago, H. M. Gauger GmbH said on October 1.
In September, good call-offs continued in domestic markets, and shipments to overseas markets are said to have improved.
According to industry sources, some temporary malthouse shutdowns have now been lifted.
The Gauger analysts believe that most maltsters will survive the corona crisis rather well, and the optimism for the future is proven by new malthouse construction plans.
