Vietnam: The Man Sugar Company launched on Monday, December 6 the first malt plant in Vietnam with a production capacity of 45,000 tonne malt per annum. The plant, based in Tien Son Industrial Zone, Bac Ninh province, just 20 km north of Ha Noi, is equipped with the most advanced technology imported from Germany's Lausmann company, Vietnam News Agency revealed on December 7. The Saigon Brewery has signed a contract to consume 15 % of the plant's production next year.

Each 50-kg malt pack will be stamped with the Viet Nam Red Cross logo, as from which the company will deduct 1,000 VND to build its own agricultural development fund in support of a wheat intensive growing area in the northwestern mountainous region and a fund for the poor.

Other sources said that the barley used at the plant is from Australia and Canada. They said the plant has already sold 10,000 tonnes of malt for about 400$/t compared to 426-432$/t for imported malt.
