EU: Barley export in July 2019-May 2020 64% more than a year ago

EU barley exports as per Taxud over the period July 2019 - 24 May 2020 were 6.705 mln tonnes, 64% more than a year ago. However, French ports report 3.5 mln tonnes shipped and 50 thousand tonnes about to be loaded, which increases the real EU export volume to at least 7.3 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH analysts said in their June report.

The main destination for European barley (as per Taxud) was Saudi Arabia for 2.586 mln tonnes.

France shipped 1.2 – 1.3 mln tonnes to China, of which 300-400 thousand tonnes of malting and 0.9 – 1.0 mln tonnes of feed barley. Shipments continue irrespectively of the corona crisis, an overall quantity for the crop year of 7.5 mln tonnes seems possible, the analysts said.

EU barley imports in July/May were 580 thousand tonnes, all tax-free: 515 thousand tonnes from the Ukraine, 60 thousand tonnes from Moldova.
