Germany: Barley malt output slightly down in 2016/17

Germany’s barley malt production in 2016/17 is estimated at 1.850 mln tonnes versus 1.870 in 2015/16, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported early in December.

In July/August 2017, the nation’s maltsters produced 303,000 tonnes of barley malt (317,000 during the same period in 2016).

Germany’s wheat malt output in 2016/17 is reported at 167,000 tonnes (160,000), whereas in July/August 2017 it amounted to 30,000 tonnes (29,000).

Barley usage in the U.K. in July/September this year was 466,000 tonnes (447,000 in July/September last year).

France forecast for 2017/18 total malt production at 1.69 mln tonnes (last year 1.668 mln tonnes).
