Barley news Ukraine: Ukraine’s barley exports decline during the first two months of the season 2017/18

Barley exports from Ukraine dropped by 10.5% over the first two months of the 2017/18 marketing season, while exports of Ukrainian barely to China are already 87% more than the volume shipped to China during the whole last marketing season, UkrAgroConsult reports.

Ukraine’s barley exports totaled 1.973 mln tonnes in July - August of the 2017/2018 marketing season, which is 10.5% less compared with the same period in the 2016/2017 marketing season.

At the same time, Ukrainian barley was actively purchased by China. In the reporting period, Ukraine supplied 560 thousand tonnes of barley to the Chinese market, which is already 87% more than for the whole last marketing season (300 thousand tonnes).

Ukraine also increased barley exports to the European Union countries - more than 220 thousand tonnes, or 18% more compared with the same period last marketing season.

Traditionally, the main market for Ukrainian barley is Saudi Arabia, which purchased over 680 thousand tonnes of barley, or 35% of total supplies, during the reporting period.
