World: Hop crop expected at around 100,000 tonnes this year

On the occasion of the summer meeting of the International Hop Growers� Convention (IHGC), which took place in Yakima, USA on August 1st, 2017, the member countries presented a first estimate on this year�s hop harvest.

Forecasts are for worldwide output amounting to around 100,000 tonnes in 2017. This equates to a decrease of circa 9% compared to the previous year.

The most important reason for the expected drop of production is the unfavourable weather in parts of the European growing regions. There was a draught since the beginning of June, which lasted until noteworthy rainfalls in the last week of July, IHGC reported.
