Interbrew has signed malt supply agreement with Greencore and Malteurop on 20 June, 2001.
Following an in-depth study of the long term future of its malting business, Interbrew decided to close its malting plants in Belgium and concluded a long term supply agreement for its breweries in Belgium and the Netherlands with two external malt suppliers, Greencore and Malteurop.
Greencore and Malteurop are the sixth and fourth largest malsters respectively by global production capacity. They have operations in Europe, South America and Asia and supply malt to the worlds leading brewers.
The social consequences of the closing of the malting plants in Aalst and Leuven have been finalized with the Works Councils. A 1 year transition period will guarantee a smooth transition from in-house production of malt to external supply, meeting Interbrews high quality standards.
