Barley news Romania: Drought causes tens of millions of euros in losses

The big agricultural cultivators will see tens of millions of euros in losses caused by this year's drought, which has affected more than half of the cultivated areas and particularly wheat crops, Ziarul Financiar published June 15.

It is hard for me to make estimates on the exact value of the losses, because we are right in the middle of our harvesting season," said Adrian Porumboiu, owner of the Racova Com Agro Pan group of firms in Vaslui County.

The situation is even more dramatic for crops in the Insula Mare a Brailei area (SE Romania), where the biggest farms are owned by businessman Culita Tarata. Tarata says out of the 65,000 hectares of arable land he holds - 27,000 hectares of corn, wheat, barley and rape, have been significantly affected by drought, with average losses of 400 euros per hectare, i.e. over 10 million euros.
