Russia & Ukraine: July-April 2020/21 barley exports reach 5.2 mln tonnes for Russia and 4.1 mln for Ukraine

Barley exports in July 2020 – April 2021 were 5.2 mln tonnes from Russia and 4.1 mln from Ukraine (of which 2.8 mln to China), H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in May.

New crop plantings are 7.7 mln ha in Russia, of which 1.3 mln in the Black Earth region. The acreage may become larger, after winter kill in wheat fields.

In spite of a complicated export tax system Russia is the most aggressive seller of wheat and barley now and is expected to dominate world markets at least in the first half of the new crop year, the analysts said.
