Argentina: Barley crop 2020 estimated at up to 4.5 mln tonnes

Argentina’s 2020 barley crop estimates are: USDA 4.1 mln tonnes, IGC 4.5 mln, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

Acreage forecasts for the new crop range from 10 to 15% up. The prospect of good sales to China excites farmers. Sales are registered as feed, but contracted as FAQ barley, which means they go to the malting industry.

The latest export statistics are: old crop feed barley 1.260 mln tonnes, of which 1.2 mln to China; malting barley 0.64 mln tonnes, apparently all for South America. New crop feed barley exports are reported at 368,000 tonnes, all for China. There are no reports of new crop malting barley exports at the moment.
