World: World barley S&D much affected by Chinas blockade of Australian barley
The barley supply & demand balance is much affected by the blockade of Australian barley to the Chinese market, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their March report.
China is anticipated to import up to 10 mln tonnes of barley in 2021/22, but only five countries (Uruguay is a small supplier) are authorized for imports to the country. It splits the world market in several groups:
Argentina/Canada/France/Ukraine/Uruguay as China-licensed;
Russia, handicapped by the present 10% and a future flexible export tax;
Australia as a strong supplier to Asian and Middle East markets;
EU (except France) and the UK taking over part of the French business to the Mediterranean markets.
