Russia: Barley exports in July-April 2017/18 up 61% versus exports in whole season 2016/17
According to preliminary information, Russia exported 349.9 thousand tonnes of barley in April 2018, i.e. 11% less than in the previous month but 24% more than in April 2017.
4.8 mln tonnes was shipped abroad during the first ten months of MY 2017/18 (July-April) - 61% more than in the whole of MY 2016/17, UkrAgroConsults analysts reported.
The rise in exports concerns almost all major end markets. So, Saudi Arabia imported 45% more barley in the period under review than in the whole of MY 2016/17. Shipments to Iran increased to 1.28 mln tonnes this season against 493.5 thousand tonnes supplied to the country a year ago. This seasons exports to Turkey are up at 500.7 thousand tonnes against 50.4 thousand in MY 2016/17.
This marketing year, Russia resumed barley deliveries to countries such as Kuwait and Tunisia. At the same time, Kuwait became one of the five largest importers of Russian barley.
It is noteworthy that the Middle East absorbs some 93% of total barley exports from Russia.
