Romania: Beer market up 2% in 2017
The Romanian beer market was up by 2% in 2017 versus the previous year, reaching sales of 16.11 million hectolitres, the Romania Insider reported on April 18.
The per capita beer consumption was 82 litres, according to data released by Romanias Brewers Association.
Total investments in the beer industry reached EUR 71.8 million in 2017, slightly up compared to 2016, according to the Association. Its members have invested a total of EUR 1.47 billion since entering the local market.
According to the trade association, the total added value the sector generates directly and indirectly is over EUR 860 million per year while the direct and indirect taxes generated amount to more than EUR 530 million per year. Over 97% of the domestic beer consumption is covered by the local production.
Beer in plastic bottles remains the Romanians favorite, with a share of close to 51% of the total volume, followed by beer in glass bottles, with 27.5% of the total, and canned beer, with 18.2%.
