Russia: Barley exports hitting new heights
Russia exported more than 507 thousand tonnes of barley in December 2017 - up 355% from December 2016 (143 thousand tonnes), UkrAgroConsult reported on February 21.
Russian barley exports in the first half of 2017/18 totaled more than 3.5 mln tonnes. This was up 92% on the year and a record high for this time of the season, the analysts said.
The rise in barley exports involved all the main end markets. In the first half of the marketing year, Saudi Arabia already purchased as much as 1.38 mln tonnes, which is up 12% from last seasons total. At the time, Russian barley exports to Jordan were up 24% year-on-year at 257 thousand tonnes, while shipments to Qatar gained 287% to hit 83 thousand tonnes.
Taking into account preliminary data on January-February 2018 deliveries, Russian barley exports to the markets of Iran and Turley have reached record indicators, the UkrAgroConsult experts said.
