EU: European malting barley markets quiet this week
It has been a quiet week with little activity on the European malting barley market. Market prices have been trending a bit easier / sideways, without showing good liquidity, GrainCom reported on October 20.
At the end of the week the market revived a bit, both for crop 2017 and crop 2018 (some business has been done, mostly in winter malting barley). There was also some demand for crop 2019 it seems hard to find a fair market price level so far, industry observers note.
In Scandinavia, the barley acreage for crop 2018 is estimated to go up by 50-70 thousand ha.
FranceAgriMer reported that sowing of French winter barley is 63% done vs 32% last week.
