UK: Barley harvest slowed down by rainfall, experts concerned by final outcome
Weather conditions have not been ideal, although rather typical for Northern Europe. In the UK, the barley harvest has started, but is slowed down time and again by rainfall, H. M. Gauger GmbH analysts reported early in August.
There is concern about the final outcome of the crop in the United Kingdom. AHDB estimates the plantings winter barley at 428,000 ha (last year 432,000), spring barley at 725,000 ha (last year 668,000). The shares of feed and malting barley are alike at 50%, but in Southeast England (66%) and North Scotland (63%) malting varieties are the leading crops.
