Brewing news Latvia: SIA Piebalgas Alus will double beer output in 2007 thanks to new Czech bottling line

One of Latvia’s smallest brewery SIA Piebalgas Alus will invest EUR 720,000 into reconstruction.

Piebalgas Alus is preparing for the signing of a contract with Czech company about the new filling equipment, that could be put into operation by next year.

As informs Peteris Micans from brewery Piebalgas Alus, the current filling equipment allows the filling of 5,000 bottles per hour, but the new equipment will be twice as much as it is now.

New equipment will let company save on power, water chemicals and vapour etc.

Janis Duklavs, chairman of the company as well as owner of the majority of the stake in the company states that there are plans to take a loan out for this investment.

Earlier the brewery attracted SAPARD funds by investing EUR 1.2 mln for new beer production line, cooling system and for some smaller reconstruction work to be carried out.

Last year Piebalgas Alus made 350,500 decilitres of beer, thus taking 2.7 pct of beer market in Latvia, but in H1 this year company already moved up taking 3.06 pct of the beer market.

Duklavs estimates that the turnover this year will reach a similar level as last year – about LVL 1.4 mln.

Also same other of small breweries such as JSC Agrofirma Tervete and SIA Zaksi (owner of Uzavas Alus) are preparing for investments for modernisation too.

Large investments are also planned at brewery Livu Alus Daritava and JSC Lacplesa Alus.
