Jordan & Ukraine: Ukraine holds to its leading position on the Jordan barley market
USDA reported that barley exports to Jordan during 2006/07 MY will decrease by 3.8% to 700,000 t. The expected decrease is related to Jordanians shifting preferences from animal to poultry meat, ProAgoNews released November 06.
Ukraine held the top position among barley exporters to Jordan (58.3%) in 2005/06 MY followed by other Black Sea countries (34.7%) and Germany (6.9%). Ukraine represented the main barley source for Jordan since 1999. The barley is purchased strictly by the Jordan government and is sold within the country at predetermined prices. Recently, the prices were augmented by JOD90/t (nearly US$/t 127) to JOD125/t (US$/t 176).
