Australia: Malting barley pool increased by AU$25 to AU$/t 240-250
The 2006-07 malting and feed barley pools have increased by AU$25 per tonne to AU$240-AU$250/t and AU$200-AU$210/t respectively, The West Australian published October 18.
The contract pool has also improved by AU$10/t to AU$265/t for malting barley and AU$225/t for feed barley, on the back of an Australian barley crop estimate of less than 4 million tonnes, down from the 5 million tonnes predicted three weeks ago.
The continuing dry weather across Australia is having a disastrous effect on crop yields.
Internationally, prices remain firm as the major exporting countries of Canada, Europe and Australia are all short of barley this year.
