Brewing news Ukraine: Beer prices are expected to increase due to new beer excise duties

Representatives from leading Ukrainian brewers like Obolon, SUN Interbrew, Slavutich and Ukrpivo expressed their disagreement with allegations aiming to raise excise duties on beer, during the works of a state subcommittee acting in the field of excise policy and state regulation of tobacco and alcoholic production, the Russian Brewers Union released October 02.

The subcommittee discussed the increase of excise duties on beer and the raise of taxes for water waste for drinks producers. It also proposed to accordingly amend the low of state budget for 2007.

Brewers’ representatives submitted a public notification in which they stressed out that raising beer excises to UAH0.34 per liter and boosting up 40-67 times the taxes for water waste within the 3 months a priori the beginning of the new fiscal year will negatively reflect upon the brewing industry.

The chairman of the subcommittee pointed out that he is perfectly aware of the problems in the brewing sector and will continue to help the sector to maintain growth and to provide foreign investors with equal opportunities.
