Brewing news Russia: SABMiller appoints James Wilson to the position of new head of Russian operations

Brewing giant SABMiller Plc said September 07 it had appointed James Wilson as the new head of its operations in Russia, one of the globe's fastest growing beer markets which ranks as fifth largest in the world, Reuters communicated September 07.

The world's No 2 brewer, which brews Peroni, Pilsner Urquell and Tyskie beers in Europe, said Wilson, 47, will take over from Ari Mervis who is moving to manage Pacific Beverages Ltd, its joint venture with Coca-Cola Amatil (CCL.AX: Quote, Profile, Research) in Australia.

SABMiller's Russian business includes its one brewery at Kaluga, 180 kilometres southwest of Moscow, which produces local brands such as Zolotaya Botchka and also international brands like Miller Genuine Draft.

The group is looking to expand capacity at the brewery to help boost its 5 percent share of the Russian beer market.

Wilson joined SABMiller in February 2005 and had previously worked for other drinks companies Scottish & Newcastle, Remy Cointreau and Highland Distilleries.
