USA: Gambrinus to increase Corona Extra wholesale prices by 6%
Reports on August 16 showed that San Antonio-located Gambrinus Co. has informed beer wholesalers that it plans to precede to a 6% price increase for Corona Extra.
The Gambrinus Company, headed by President Carlos Alvarez, is a privately held corporation and is best known as importer of the Grupo Modelo brand portfolio for the Eastern United States. Modelo brands include Corona Extra–the number one selling import in the U.S. and seventh largest selling beer in the world–and fast-growing Corona Light, Modelo Especial, Negra Modelo and Pacifico Clara. Gambrinus also imports Moosehead Lager from Canada, owns the BridgePort Brewery in Portland, Oregon and the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas, and owns and brews the Pete’s Wicked brand family.
Analysts estimated this move emerges from Gambrinus’ aim to bring back revenues it lost from the recent Corona Extra shortage, which is viewed with suspicion by experts.
