EU: Beer sales statistics disappoint despite euphoric previsions
There was quite an euphoria in the market about excellent beer sales in the EU, especially in Germany and the U.K., during the football world championship and even thereafter because of the hot summer weather, analyst confirmed August 01.
Call-offs of malt by local brewers were said to be very good. It is disappointing, but the few existing monthly beer sales statistics do not prove that point at all. Germany sold 1.8 % more beer in June than a year ago, which is 0.7 % more for the year. France reports a small plus in June, but still stands at minus 2.2 % for the year. The U.S. brewers shipped 74.55 million barrels in Jan-May, a plus of 2 %.
It is reported, though, that Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Southeast Asia and China did very well.
