Czech Republic: Drinks Union more than doubles profit to Kc71m in 1H 2006
Drinks Union group made a Kc71m profit in the first half of 2006, compared with a Kc33m profit a year earlier, and its sales grew by 4 percent to Kc569m, CFO Miroslav Bretsnajdr told CTK August 08, Czech News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge learned August 08.
The growth in profit was achieved thanks to higher sale of spirits which rose by nearly a third to 26,400 hectolitres, he explained. In contrast, revenues from the sale of beer remained on the same level. Beer makes up 80 percent of the group's output. Drinks Union in the first half turned out nearly 442,000 hectolitres of beer in its four breweries - Zlatopramen, Velke Brezno, Louny and Kutna Hora.
The output is roughly the same as in the corresponding period of 2005. Drinks Union is the fourth largest Czech beer producer and the largest Czech beer exporter to Germany. Last year, Drinks Union had Kc1.2bn sales and its pre-tax profit reached Kc83m.
