Barley news Canada: Cargill management of Terminal 22 brings opportunity for grain producers

Cargill Limited has accepted full managerial responsibility over Terminal 22 in Balcarres, Saskatchewan. Cargill and the Board of Terminal 22 finalized a Letter of Intent in mid-April to manage the daily operations of the Terminal, CNW informed June 20.

The changeover of management to Cargill has recently been completed at the Terminal. Cargill will continue to own 50% of the facility with the remaining 50% still held by Terminal 22 Ltd., which is mostly farmer and local business owned. Cargill will be managing Terminal 22 under the new Operating and Management Agreement.

Company officials confirmed that Terminal 22 has been integrated into Cargill AgHorizions' Qu'Appelle Farm Service Group (FSG). "As part of our network of businesses, we envision great opportunities for growth of Terminal 22, its employees, and our customers," said James Mowbray, Qu'Appelle Valley Farm Service Group Manager. "We want this decision to send a strong signal to the farming community in Saskatchewan that Cargill is committed to their success and is here to stay for the long-term."

Garth Hollinger, Chairman of Terminal 22 Inc., stated that, "Cargill has a proven management ability and with the challenges associated with the grain industry and the grain handling business presently and into the future, this arrangement with Cargill strengthens the Terminal's presence and maintains its position as a serious contender in South and Central Saskatchewan. This will enable the Inland Terminal to better serve its existing customers and continue to provide an alternative delivery point to new customers. Also this initiative (to have Cargill manage the facility) will streamline the general and administrative costs at the Terminal and those cost savings will be passed on to our customers, which should be a good deal for everybody!"

Cargill AgHorizons operates grain handling and crop inputs facilities across the Prairies and in Ontario, working in partnership with producers to develop grain-marketing solutions.
