Brewing news Australia: Bluetongue Brewery to increase production to 4.5 million litres next year

Cameron Park’s brewery, which started production in November 2003, will increase its yield from 1.5 million litres of beer a year to between 4.5 to 5 million litres next year. The expansion is market driven said Bruce Peachey, general manager and head brewer of Bluetongue Brewery, The Newcastle Star posted June 06.

"At the moment, we physically can not keep up with the demand." The expansion will mean an extra five to 10 jobs and an investment of around $3 million. The brewery will expand its production to the threshold at its current site in the Cameron Park Industrial Estate.

"When we get to that stage of production, and we are able to sell it, we'll have a look at other larger premises," said Mr Peachey. He said the Cameron Park site was chosen for a variety of reasons.

"There was existing industrial land that was pretty much in the area that we had outlined for our development, close to transport links and planning approval was relatively easy."

Mr Peachey said Lake Macquarie City Council was quite approachable during the planning and development process, contrary to anecdotal evidence that gaining planning permission was a difficult procedure.

He said the council was approachable not only in terms of planning, but they also opened doors to the company with help with infrastructure.

It is important to the business that it remains in the Hunter Valley and Mr Peachey said he would prefer to remain in Lake Macquarie after his good experiences with the council.
