Canada: Initial estimates of the CWB put the barley acreage in Canada 2 % lower than last year
Initial estimates of the CWB put the barley acreage in Canada 2 % lower than last years 3.9 million ha. Exports as of March 19, 2006 were 1.95 million tonnes versus only 700,000 tonnes a year ago.
It is estimated that shipments of feed barley were 1.4 million tonnes, while shipments of malting barley 0.55 million tonnes. At present the domestic cash market is better than the world market of feed barley so that exports are unattractive.
